Alternatives
Option Alpha alternatives
Option Alpha is one of the best-known options automation platforms, and for plenty of traders it is the right tool. But its backtester covers five index tickers with three years of history and a 45 DTE cap, bots are limited to 50 per account and $100,000 each, and full access costs $99 to $149 a month unless you qualify for a broker promo. If any of those are deal-breakers, here are the alternatives worth evaluating.
Full disclosure: Whispertrades (this site) is one of the alternatives below, so read with that in mind. Every competitor detail on this page comes from the vendor's own public pages and was last verified in July 2026.
The alternatives at a glance
Whispertrades
That's usNo-code options bots plus intraday backtesting on Schwab, tastytrade, and Tradier. Pay per trading day (from $1.10 per bot) and per backtest ($0.50 per position), with no subscription.
Best for: traders who want deep backtesting (10-second data, 2016 to present, no DTE cap) and usage-based pricing.
Honest limitation: no bot templates, courses, or strategy library; you build your own strategies. No free trial.
Option Omega
A backtesting-first platform with a loyal following among high-volume testers, plus a newer automation tier.
Best for: traders who run large volumes of backtests under a flat subscription.
Honest limitation: backtesting covers six tickers, and the Automate tier runs $299.99 a month with no trial.
TradersPost
A webhook relay that forwards signals from TradingView and other sources to a wide list of brokers, across stocks, options, futures, and crypto.
Best for: traders whose strategy logic already lives in TradingView alerts.
Honest limitation: it relays signals rather than hosting strategy logic, and options-specific tooling is thin.
Trade Automation Toolbox
A 0DTE-focused bot platform with a dedicated SPX community.
Best for: dedicated 0DTE SPX traders.
Honest limitation: it is a Windows desktop app, so keeping bots running all session typically means renting a VPS.
tradeSteward
Options bots and backtesting on Schwab, tastytrade, Tradier, and TradeStation.
Best for: Traders who want advanced bot automation.
Honest limitation: no paper trading, and its Backtick backtester is in beta for subscribers.
OptionBots
A bot platform priced at $197 to $297 a month.
Best for: traders who are just getting started with automation.
Honest limitation: no Schwab support.

When Option Alpha is the better choice
An honest comparison cuts both ways. Choose Option Alpha if you are newer to options automation and want guided templates, courses, and an active community; if you qualify for its $0/mo Tradier or TradeStation promos and are happy at those brokers; if you trade at TradeStation at all (Whispertrades does not connect to it); or if you run very heavy backtest volume and prefer it flat-rate under a subscription.
When to pick Whispertrades
Pick Whispertrades if your strategy needs backtesting depth Option Alpha's tool cannot reach: 10-second data back to 2016 and expirations beyond 45 DTE. Pick it if you would rather pay $1.10 per bot per trading day than commit to a monthly subscription, or if you want a built-in paper trading account to rehearse everything first. Whispertrades has no bot allocation limits and supports undefined risk strategies. Start with the options trading bot overview, the backtesting engine, or the full pricing breakdown.
Common questions
-
It depends on what you need. If you want templates, courses, and community, Option Alpha earns its subscription. If you want deeper backtesting (longer history, finer data, no DTE cap), usage-based pricing instead of a monthly fee, and position sizes for large accounts, Whispertrades is built for exactly that.
-
It depends on your usage. Option Alpha itself can be $0 a month if you qualify for its Tradier or TradeStation promos, which require $5k to $10k account minimums. Whispertrades has no subscription at all: bots start at $1.10 per trading day and you pay only for the days they actually run, so light or seasonal traders often spend less than any flat monthly plan.
-
There is no importer, so you rebuild the rules in the Whispertrades builder. Strategies with clearly defined entries and exits are usually quick to reconstruct, and you can rehearse the rebuilt bot in paper trading before going live.
-
No. Whispertrades does not provide templates, sample strategies, or trading recommendations. That is a deliberate choice: the platform executes your strategy rather than suggesting one. If you want a library of ready-made bots to start from, that is a genuine reason to choose Option Alpha instead.
-
Whispertrades backtests run on intraday data from 2016 to present. Option Alpha's backtester advertises 3 years of 1-minute data, capped at 45 DTE, on SPX, SPY, QQQ, IWM, and XSP, as of July 2026.
Judge it on a backtest
The fastest way to compare platforms is to test your own strategy. On Whispertrades that costs $0.50, not a subscription.
